Library of Congress Control Number

The Library of Congress Control Number is a 12 digit number issue by the Library of Congress to give basic cataloging information to libraries and bookstores. Residents of the United States are able to apply for a Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN). There is currently no charge for this service. To obtain a Library of Congress Control Number, please visit LOC.gov to create an account and register.

The vast majority of self-published authors do not consider the LCCN to be a priority. As a result, most self-published books do not contain the Library of Congress Control Number.
